Rather than post about New Year’s resolutions for 2018 we thought we’d talk about ways to become an even better nanny than you already are… if that’s even possible, of course!
Here are some points to think on if you’re looking to take it to the next level next year.
Look After YOU:
You can’t pour from an empty cup, as the saying goes. Childcare is a full-on career, and you simply can’t have off-days when you’re in sole charge of precious little people, so your health and wellbeing are assets you need to work hard to protect.
Do what you can to get good sleep, eat well and drink plenty of water throughout the day. Use your days off to nurture yourself and enjoy some well-earned rewards for your hard work: yoga, reading, a day in bed watching Netflix and eating popcorn, or a relaxing meal out with your friends – whatever it is that makes you feel good. Go on, you deserve it.
Develop & Share Your Creativity:
Coming up with things to make and do with little people comes naturally to some lucky nannies, but most of us have to work at it - especially as our charges’ abilities and needs are constantly evolving. Keep an eye on our weekly news page and Facebook for lots of ideas for fun and games at home and outdoors, and make some time to follow inspiring childcare accounts on Instagram, Pinterest and Facebook for daily doses of inspo.
Start off by looking at the accounts we share content from, and take it from there. Don’t forget to share ideas with your fellow nannies and our Facebook page, because sharing is caring…
Be Present and Mindful:
Keeping off social media and away from your personal phone goes without saying when you’re working, but it takes more than this to be truly ‘in the moment’ while you’re caring for your charges. Mindfulness helps foster deeper and happier relationships because when we are being mindful, we are truly paying attention to what’s happening around us and fully investing in that moment - not simultaneously thinking about other stuff.
So whether you’re building a home fortress or doing tea-time, chatting with your charges about their morning at nursery or handing over to the weekend nanny, give it your full energy and attention and everyone wins. Yourself included.
We wish all our super nannies a healthy, happy and successful 2018!
