The Opportunity

Nannies of St James is delighted to be recruiting an outstanding Rota Nanny/Governess for a highly private, international family seeking a truly versatile childcare professional to support their 11-year-old son. Native English + UK passport

This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced career Nanny/Governess who enjoys the variety of international family life and can bring together the best qualities of both disciplines: the educational knowledge and mentoring skills of a Governess, alongside the energy, practicality and nurturing approach of a first-class Nanny.

The family maintains several international residences, including a home in London, and travels extensively. Their precise location and forthcoming schedule are still being finalised, so the successful candidate must be genuinely flexible and comfortable adapting to different homes, countries and routines.

The household is fully staffed and professionally run, and the incoming Nanny/Governess will need to work comfortably and collaboratively alongside other household professionals.

Our young charge is 11 years old, active, sporty and enthusiastic, with a particular love of football, surfing and padel. The family would love to find someone who can connect with him naturally, take a genuine interest in his activities and encourage him to make the most of the opportunities available through his international upbringing. This is very much a role for someone who enjoys the company of older children and understands the importance of helping them develop confidence, independence, good manners and a sense of responsibility. The successful candidate will be a trusted companion, mentor and positive role model, providing consistency, encouragement and appropriate boundaries as he approaches his teenage years.

The Role

Working on a three-weeks-on / three-weeks-off rotation, the Nanny/Governess will assume responsibility for the child's care, organisation, educational support and general wellbeing during their working periods.

Responsibilities will include:

  • Supporting homework, school projects, revision and the development of effective study habits.
  • Liaising with schools, teachers and tutors as required.
  • Encouraging curiosity and learning through cultural outings, educational experiences and travel.
  • Organising sporting activities, social arrangements and age-appropriate enrichment.
  • Taking an active interest in the child's sporting pursuits and accompanying him to activities where appropriate.
  • Managing his daily routines, appointments, extracurricular commitments and personal schedule.
  • Accompanying the family on international travel and ensuring continuity of routines and educational support.
  • Overseeing the child's packing, belongings, travel requirements and relevant logistics.
  • Supporting his emotional and social development, independence and confidence.
  • Maintaining clear communication with the parents and working harmoniously with other household staff.
  • The family is looking for someone who can be hands-on and proactive without being overly formal or rigid; someone who knows when to provide structure and guidance, but equally understands the importance of fun, spontaneity and allowing an 11-year-old boy to enjoy being a child.

The Ideal Candidate:

We are particularly interested in meeting accomplished, career Nannies and Governesses with substantial experience of older, school-age children, preferably gained within UHNW or internationally mobile private households. Native English + UK passport.

Excellent academic credentials and educational experience will be highly valued, but equally important is the candidate's personality and ability to engage with a sporty, energetic boy.

The successful applicant will ideally offer:

  • An excellent professional background in private childcare and/or governessing.
  • Strong educational knowledge and confidence supporting school-age learning.
  • Previous experience of rota positions or comparable high-level private household roles.
  • Extensive international travel experience and a genuinely adaptable outlook.
  • An active, sporty disposition and enthusiasm for outdoor pursuits.
  • Excellent organisation, forward planning and communication skills.
  • Confidence working within a fully staffed household.
  • Discretion, emotional intelligence, maturity and sound judgement.
  • A warm, engaging and approachable personality, with natural authority and good boundaries.
  • Current First Aid certification.
  • Driving ability would be advantageous.

Above all, the family is seeking an exceptional all-rounder: someone equally happy helping with a challenging school project, organising a busy travel itinerary, supporting a sporting interest or simply enjoying relaxed time with the child.

Salary & Package

  • An excellent, top-level remuneration package, £100,000, is available for a candidate offering the right combination of experience, qualifications and personal qualities.
  • The position operates on a three-weeks-on / three-weeks-off rota, with private accommodation provided during working periods and extensive international travel.
  • This is an outstanding opportunity for a professional Nanny/Governess seeking a rewarding, varied and long-term international appointment.

Interviews are taking place for an ASAP start, with the family's forthcoming location and travel arrangements to be confirmed.
